When you think about SEO, there are basically two main categories. Those two main categories are on-page and off-page SEO.
On-page explanation: keyword selection and tactical insertion in your website. Period. You must be smart about your keyword research for best results.
As the web grows, keyword research is critically important. You want to use keywords that are actually searched, but don’t have so much competition that you’ll never have those keywords work for you. It’s a balancing act.
The rest of this article is about off-page SEO. That on-page primer was for illustration purposes. Off-page search engine optimization explanation: link building. Period.
Seek out backlinks from high authority sites such as government sites and large institutional sites such as Wikipedia. However, the reality is you’ll get most of your links from lower authority sites.
For example, if your website is about a yoga studio, you’re better off getting a link from a health facility than a mechanic. That makes sense because the web is a network; in order for the network to work, it must be connected in ways that make sense.
Is it easy getting links? You bet, but it takes work. There a three main styles of link building.
1. Create such great content that other websites, without any prompting from you, link to your site. Content can be articles, videos, podcasts, and/or photos.
2. Go out and get those links by asking other website and blog webmasters to swap links. You place their website on your site and they place your site on their site.
3. Create inbound links by writing and publishing content on sites outside your website.
I focus on option three. I like the control and I like the links to my site being one-way. I’ve done link exchanging but it’s an ongoing headache.
The downside to this method is it requires a pretty hefty investment of your time to do it well and effectively. However, there are excellent SEO services you can check out that vastly speed up the process.
That said, if you look, there are more efficient ways to create these links outside your site with top quality SEO services.
