As laptop computers enter the mainstream in terms of price, more and more people are beginning to switch from desktops to this portable device. However, you may have observed that your laptop runs a bit slower compared with their desktop counterparts. Why? How can we speed up laptop then? In this article, you will learn why laptops run much slower than pc counterpart and how you can remedy this problem.
Why is your laptop slower than your desktop? Common knowledge tells us that laptops are a small version of pc’s. The truth is, while they run similar programs and they perform similar operations, they are 2 different devices in terms of design and construction.
Laptop computers are naturaly slower compared with their much beefier desktop cousins that are manufactured with the same technology. This is because laptops have to give up certain features to keep its size and battery life. {Laptops have slower processor speed than pc’s to keep its performance at par}. {Memory is also a big issue to consider since larger memory requires more power to run}. There are few of the things that you need to understand before you think of going back to your desktop. Nonetheless, there are ways to speed up your laptop and to keep its performance reasonable.
Declutter your Laptop. As you use your computer things pile up in your computer which make your laptop run slower. {It can be in the form of unused files, unnecessary files, useless programs, and temporary internet files you didn’t realize to be in your computer}.
{To remove unimportant documents, mp3, photos, and videos, go to the folders where they are saved, choose files you wish to remove, and hit delete}. To completely erase the traces of these files from your hard disk, empty your recycle bin. Remember though that after you have emptied your recycle bin, they are permanently deleted.
Unused programs should be uninstalled properly. {Go to the Control Panel and click Add/Remove programs. Identify the programs you don’t need, then uninstall them to free up some space}.
Temporary internet files are little fragments of webpages you have visited that are saved in your computer to increase browsing speed. Each temporary internet file is very small, but when combined, they take up a considerable amount of disk space. {Remove these files by going to the “Clear Browsing History” in the Tools Tab of your browser}. {Remove cookies, history, form data, and temporary internet files}.
Other ways to speed up laptop is regular disk clean up, defragmentation, cleaning virus and spyware. And during normal computer operation, run programs that you only need. While most laptops handle several operations pretty well, multiple files that are opened at the same time take up a lot of computer speed that can eventually slow your laptop down.
