SEO Tips, A Good Title Can Get Your Pages Ranked Higher

by Ricardo d Argence on July 20, 2009

Many people do not realize just how important the title of their website really is. If you’re surfing the Internet for something specific you’re going to go with the title that catches your eye, therefore if you’re making your own website you want to make sure you have that eye-catching title.

The title is what attracts people to your website and tells them exactly what you have. It needs to also be a good title that will rank high in the search engines, this way your website will pop up more often than others when searched.

Take a look at the title in its entirety. Be sure the title tells your prospective clients exactly what you offer, while at the same time making sure that it’s search engine friendly.

You don’t make your website title just the name of your company because that will not tell people what you can offer them or entice them to clicking on your website.

Let’s say that you sell widgets. “John’s Place” isn’t going to tell folks you sell widgets. And it probably won’t make people click on your website. By contrast, “John’s Best Widgets” (johnsbestwidgets.com) is a good title and website name if you sell widgets, because it tells people exactly what you sell. And that means, more people are going to go to your website, because you have made it easy for them find what they want.

In addition, make sure you use relevant keywords in your title. That’s what people use when they do a search with a search engine.

For instance if your looking for cheap web hosting for your website, you’re not going to type in Joe’s websites to do your search. The key word for that would be, cheap web hosting.

User keywords at the beginning of your title, which means it’ll be ranked higher in search engine rankings. You may even want the keyword twice.

That can be a little tricky to do as you don’t want to sound redundant but it is possible to do it. You can say, Joe’s cheap web hosting, the best cheap web hosting service on the net. It sounds more as a statement instead of sounding repetitious and each key word in there twice.

Make sure your title persuades and gets your prospects to click through and take a look at what you have to offer. If your title is not persuasive, you’re not going to get much traffic and therefore you’re not going to sell much. Make sure you say we have to say in 65 characters or less, though.

Usually, search engines limit the title link that you can show on your search engine results, with Google, for example, displaying just the first 60 to 66 characters. This is why it’s important to get everything done in under 65 characters.

Don’t use secondary keywords in your title. You can use these on your main page, but save your main keywords for your title, which is what’s really important. Again, your website title should be short and to the point. Don’t stuff with repetitive keywords, because you just sound desperate if you do that.
