The Most Lucrative Motion Picture Franchise In History- James Bond

by Christine G Roberts on August 6, 2009

The longest running and most financially thriving English language film franchise to date is the James Bond movies. James Bond 007 is a extremely recognized but unreal character that was created in 1953 by the writer Ian Fleming. He was featured in twelve novels and two short story collections. The movie franchise began in 1962 with Dr. No.

Ian Fleming died in 1964, yet that was not the ending of the novels featuring James Bond. Kingsley Amis, writing as Robert Markham, John Pearson, Raymond Benson, John Gardner and Sebastian Faulks, wrote successive James Bond novels. Moreover, Christopher Woods novelized two screenplays and assorted other writers’ authored unsanctioned versions of the character.

There have been 22 films in the James Bond franchise to date, the most up-to-date being “Quantum of Solace” that was released October 31, 2008. The first movie was “Dr. No”, from the time 1962.

Right through the years several actors have portrayed the lead character of James Bond. Sean Connery is contemplated to be the original James Bond. He was Bond in 6 distinctive movies, starting with the first “Dr. No” in 1962, followed by “From Russia With Love” in 1963, “Goldfinger” from 1964, “Thunderball” in 1965, “You Only Live Twice” in 1967 and “Diamonds Are Forever” from 1971.

In 1969, Sean Connery took a break from being James Bond for the motion picture “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. George Lazenby played James Bond in that film. He was the only actor of all of the James Bond actors to merely act in one film.

After that Roger Moore became Bond. In 1973 for “Live and Let Die”, 1974 in “The Man with the Golden Gun” and 1977, “The Spy who Loved Me”, in 1979 it was “Moonraker” and 1981 brought “For Your Eyes Only”, “Octopussy” in 1983 and the last movie starring Roger Moore was “A View to a Kill” in 1985.

Timothy Dalton was next for “The Living Daylights” in 1987 and “License to Kill” in 1989. After just two movies with Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan took over the principal part in “Goldeneye” in 1995. We enjoyed 3 extra movies with Pierce Brosnan, “Tomorrow Never Dies” in 1997, “The World Is Not Enough” in 1999 and “Die Another Day” in 2002.

For now the lead part of James Bond belongs to Daniel Craig, the only fair-haired James Bond so far. He was Bond in “Casino Royale” in 2006 and “Quantum of Solace” in 2008. One more show is in the works now, as of yet untitled and referred to as merely James Bond 23.
